KABUL (Pajhwok): Former US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad says some companies from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Azerbaijan and Norway are interested in investing in various sectors in Afghanistan, particularly in oil and gas exploration and extraction. He made the remarks during a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, his office said in a statement. It said the two sides discussed the regional situation, progress made in good governance and infrastructure in Afghanistan, and available investment opportunities for foreign companies in various sectors. During the meeting, Khalilzad noted that progress had been made in various areas in Afghanistan and that favourable conditions had been created to attract foreign investment. He added that some companies from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Azerbaijan and Norway were interested in investing in Afghanistan, particularly in oil and gas exploration and extraction. For his part, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs welcomed the interest shown by companies from the four countries in investing in Afghanistan. He maintained that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) had created numerous facilities for investors and was ready to provide them with cooperation and support.
