KABUL (Pajhwok): Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has condemned an attempt to attack Mecca, stressing that the security, sanctity and sacredness of the holy sites must remain protected from all forms of conflict, violence and military action. In a statement, the ministry said reports of an attempted drone attack near Makkah Al-Mukarramah had caused it deep concern. The MoFA strongly condemned any action directed toward the Two Holy Mosques (Al-Haramayn Al-Sharifayn) that could threaten the security or sanctity of these sacred sites, describing such an act as an unforgivable crime. The ministry emphasized that the Two Holy Mosques are sacred sites shared by the Muslim Ummah and held in the highest regard. It said their security, sanctity, and sacred character must be safeguarded from the consequences of any conflict, violence, or military operations. It further warned that any threat against the Two Holy Mosques deeply provokes the sentiments of Muslims and could contribute to further instability in the region. The statement comes after a Saudi Arabia-led military coalition said that Saudi air-defense forces had intercepted and destroyed a Houthi drone south of Mecca on Tuesday evening, before it entered the city’s restricted airspace.
