5 arrested over smuggling of 270 people in Nimroz — Pajhwok

ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Nimroz police said security forces have prevented more than 270 passengers from being illegally smuggled out of the country in Zaranj, the capital of the southwestern province, and arrested five suspected smugglers. Mawlawi Gul Mohammad Qudrat, spokesman for the Nimroz police headquarters, said security forces from the city’s third security district had discovered three hideouts used for smuggling passengers in the Moallim Akhtar village area. He said the operation prevented 110 passengers from being illegally taken out of the country and led to the arrest of three people in connection with the case. According to Qudrat, two Toyota vehicles were also seized from the suspected smugglers during the operation. He said that in a separate operation, security forces from the third security district prevented the smuggling of hundreds of passengers in the Deh Maldaran and Sardasht areas. Qudrat added that 160 passengers were prevented from being illegally smuggled out of the country yesterday, and two people were arrested in connection with the case. He said two Toyota vehicles, including a “Khosti”-type vehicle, and a motorcycle were also seized during the operation. The Nimroz police spokesman said the detainees were handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department after preliminary investigations.
