KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan’s Ministry of Interior says its deputy minister for counter-narcotics and the head of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Kabul have discussed ways to strengthen and expand cooperation in the fight against drugs. The ministry said on X that Sheikh Abdul Rahman Munir, deputy minister for counter-narcotics, met with UNODC head Pilyeuk Sri in Kabul. The two sides discussed strengthening cooperation and coordination in counter-narcotics efforts, particularly in conducting surveys and collecting data, the ministry said. Munir briefed the UNODC official on measures taken by the Counter-Narcotics Department and stressed that effectively addressing the global drug problem requires joint efforts based on international standards and sustained cooperation. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continuing existing cooperation and taking further steps to strengthen coordination, according to the ministry.
