KABUL (Pajhwok): US President Donald Trump has offered to help find a solution to end the war in Ukraine during a 90-minute telephone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, a media report said on Sunday. Reuters, quoting Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov, reported that Trump made the offer during the call on Saturday ahead of next week’s NATO summit in Turkey. Ushakov said Russia remained committed to resolving the war through political and diplomatic means, while taking Moscow’s core positions into account. He accused Ukraine and its European allies of seeking to prolong and escalate the conflict, describing Ukraine’s long-range strikes on Russian targets as “terrorist acts against civilians.” He added that Putin briefed Trump on developments on the battlefield, saying Russian forces were continuing to advance. According to Ushakov, Trump said US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would continue their mediation efforts and were prepared to travel to Moscow again. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he also held a telephone conversation with Trump, and that the two agreed to continue discussions at the upcoming NATO summit. Zelenskyy described the call as “very good” and said they discussed the situation on the frontline. He added: “There is a real prospect of ending this war, and the determination of the United States will play a decisive role in achieving that.”
