KABUL (Pajhwok): Seven people have been killed and 40 wounded after gunmen opened fire during a funeral at a church in Jordan, media reports say. Major General Abdallah al-Maaytah said at a press conference that most of the wounded in the attack at Hamoud Church in Karak governorate were still receiving treatment and a manhunt for the attackers was under way. Jordan’s health minister confirmed that 40 people had been wounded, Reuters reported. Interior Minister Mazin Al Farrayeh described the attackers as “extremists” but said it was too early to determine whether they had links to known groups inside or outside Jordan. Such attacks are rare in Jordan, a relatively stable country and US ally. However, authorities say they have repeatedly foiled attempted attacks by Islamist militants in recent years. No group had immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Jordan’s state-owned Al-Mamlaka television aired footage apparently recorded by a security camera at the church. It showed three people firing from a pavement before taking cover behind trees and a low wall, then running towards the church entrance. Reuters verified the footage using the church’s entrance path and surrounding wall, along with other details. “This is a result of a terrorist ideology and blind extremism, and we will not allow society to go down this path,” Prime Minister Jafar Hassan said…
