KABUL (Pajhwok): At least six people, including five children, were killed when a group of buildings collapsed in India’s financial capital Mumbai amid heavy rains, officials said. According to Reuters, two to three multi-storey houses collapsed in a slum area in Mankhurd, leaving five young children and one woman dead, civic authorities said. Heavy rains also triggered landslides on the expressway connecting Mumbai with Pune, forcing its closure and disrupting traffic between the two cities on Sunday. Road transport, flights, and long-distance train services, including those between Mumbai and Pune, were also affected, with several cancellations reported. Local media showed residents wading through waterlogged streets as schools and colleges were shut on Monday. Heavy rainfall also caused trees to fall across Mumbai, killing at least three people since late last month, according to local reports. The city, India’s financial hub, received over 100mm of rainfall, with some areas recording up to 161mm. India’s weather department has forecast “very light to light” rain for Monday in several parts of the national capital region.
