Ghor residents build school at personal cost — Pajhwok
KABUL (Pajhwok): Residents of Lal-wa-Sarjangal district in western Ghor province have built a new school building at a cost of 520,000 afghanis using their own money, an official said on Tuesday. Zabihullah Wafa, spokesman for the Education Department, said the building had one floor and eight classrooms. He said the provincial education director, while inaugurating the building, thanked local residents for their cooperation and stressed the need to protect and maintain the newly constructed facility. Some students of the school also thanked their families and education officials for their support, saying the new building had relieved them of the difficulties they previously faced while studying in tents during the hot summer months. Hassan, one of the students, said: “Previously, we studied under tents in the summer heat and faced many difficulties. However, with the construction of this school, better learning conditions have now been provided for us. We are grateful to the families and education officials who helped build this school.” The construction of the school by local residents in Lal-wa-Sarjangal district comes two days after two standard school buildings were also constructed and inaugurated in Ferozkoh, the provincial capital, at a cost of 581,000 dollars funded by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
