KABUL (Pajhwok): Former Afghanistan fast bowler Shapoor Zadran has died at the age of 38 after a prolonged illness, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed on Tuesday. In a statement, the ACB expressed sorrow over Zadran’s death, describing him as one of the founding figures of Afghan cricket whose dedication, commitment and tireless efforts played a key role in the growth and development of the sport in the country. “Shapoor served Afghanistan cricket with honour, courage and pride throughout his career. His efforts and achievements will remain an important chapter in Afghanistan’s cricket history, and his contributions to the national team will never be forgotten,” the statement said. The board added that beyond the cricket field, Zadran was a source of inspiration for many young Afghan players and cricket fans around the world. His fighting spirit, determination and passion for the game encouraged a generation to dream big and believe in the future of Afghan cricket. Zadran had been receiving treatment in India for a rare illness. He was admitted to a hospital in New Delhi in January after falling ill in Afghanistan last October. His brother, Ghamai Zadran, and former Afghanistan captain Asghar Afghan had accompanied him during his treatment. He passed away on Monday night after a courageous battle with the illness.
