KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 13 people were killed and five others injured after a lorry carrying wedding guests collided with two trucks on a highway on Indonesia’s Java island, media reports said. The Associated Press reported the accident occurred on Saturday evening on the North Coast Highway near Kiajaran Kulon village in Indramayu district. Police said the victims were returning home in an open-backed lorry after attending a wedding ceremony in a neighbouring village. The vehicle was slowing down to make a turn at a road median when it was struck from behind by another truck. Undang Syarif Hidayat, the local traffic police chief, said the impact pushed the lorry into the opposite lane, where it collided with a second truck. He said the force of the crash threw more than 10 passengers from the vehicle onto the highway. Police confirmed that at least 13 people were killed and five others injured in the accident. According to the Associated Press, the injured victims, whose conditions range from minor to critical, are receiving treatment in hospital. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
