KABUL (Pajhwok): An ancient fortress in central Parwan province, dating back to around 300 BC, has been registered as a historical monument for the first time, the Ministry of Information and Culture (MoIC) says. The ministry said in a statement that the Kafir Qala site in Siahgard district was added to the provincial historical monuments database for the first time by the Department of Information and Culture. According to the statement, the fortress dates back to around 300 BC and was built on a high hill in a strategically important location. The site includes several watchtowers, a large entrance gate and high defensive walls that were used for military and security purposes in the past. The provincial director of information and culture said the department was committed to implementing the decree of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s (IEA) supreme leader on protecting historical sites and artefacts. He added that efforts would continue to preserve and restore historical sites where necessary. He also called on residents of Parwan to cooperate with the department in identifying, registering and protecting historical sites and cultural heritage. Meanwhile, some local residents said another ancient site, known as Qarya-i-Buddha, is located north of Kafir Qala.
