KABUL (Pajhwok): A German state interior minister has voiced support for stricter migration policies, including increased deportations of Afghan migrants to Afghanistan and called for the resumption of deportations to Syria, media reports said on Thursday. German media reported that Roman Poseck, interior minister of the state of Hesse, presented figures on deportations and migration trends during the first six months of 2026 at a press conference in Wiesbaden on Wednesday. Poseck said federal and state authorities were working together to curb irregular migration and enforce deportation orders. “This helps reduce pressure on both the state and society,” he said. He said the federal government had pursued a stricter migration policy since taking office, including tighter border controls, more border rejections, suspension of family reunification and increased deportations, including to Afghanistan. “The figures show these measures have been effective,” Poseck said, adding that the policy should continue. He also called for a review of security assessments of some countries, including Syria, to allow the resumption of regular deportations. The remarks came after German newspaper taz reported on July 9 that Berlin was considering deporting not only Afghan nationals convicted of crimes but also those without criminal records who were not considered security threats.
