KABUL (Pajhwok): Government officials say key roads in the provinces of Paktia, Panjshir and Parwan, which were closed following heavy rainfall and flash floods, have been reopened to traffic. The Ministry of Public Works announced on Friday that the Gardez–Khost Highway in Paktia, roads in the Dara, Abdullah Khil and Abshar districts of Panjshir, and the Parwan–Bamyan Highway in the Shinwari and Siyah Gerd districts of Parwan have all been reopened after being closed since Thursday afternoon due to flooding. According to the ministry, operational teams cleared the affected routes using heavy machinery, allowing traffic to resume. The Parwan governor’s media office also confirmed that the Parwan–Bamyan Highway was fully reopened at midnight, with traffic returning to normal. Meanwhile, Haqmal Saad, spokesperson for the Panjshir Police Command, said severe flooding had struck the Dara and Rukha districts of the province. He said preliminary reports from district police indicated that no fatalities had been recorded, but the floods caused extensive property damage. According to Saad, the flooding damaged shops in the Dara district market, residential homes, agricultural land, roads and irrigation canals. He added that police personnel had been deployed to the affected areas to assist residents and help reopen transportation routes.
