PARAKH (Pajhwok): Recent flash floods caused extensive damage to agricultural land, homes and public infrastructure in Panjshir’s Rukha and Dara districts, although no casualties were reported, local officials said on Friday. Saifuddin Laton, spokesman for the Panjshir governor, told Pajhwok Afghan News that flooding in Rukha districtand the villages of Golzangar, Hisarak, Marishtan and Darkhail damaged or destroyed dozens of jeribs of farmland, 20 irrigation canal intakes, around 1,000 fruit and non-fruit saplings, three small bridges, and a number of livestock. He said that in Dara district, particularly in the Karaman, Abdullah Khil and Chalpawi areas, three houses were completely destroyed and three others were partially damaged. The floods also damaged 35 shops and six commercial containers, while eight cattle were killed, Laton added. In addition, 50 jeribs of farmland, 25 irrigation canal intakes, five pedestrian bridges, 13 small hydropower facilities, and five drinking water supply networks sustained partial damage. Laton said assessment teams are continuing to evaluate the full extent of the losses.
