KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 27 people, including 15 security personnel and 12 militants, were killed after an armed group attacked a security post in Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, media reports said on Saturday. Quoting the military’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Geo News reported that the attack took place on the night of July 23-24, when militants attempted to breach the security post. The military said security forces pursued the attackers as they retreated and killed 12 of them. According to ISPR, the attackers later rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the post’s perimeter wall. The explosion caused extensive damage to the facility, killing 15 people, including 12 soldiers, two police officers and an employee of the former Forest Department. Al Jazeera reported that the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed four attackers had taken part in the assault. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has witnessed an increase in militant attacks in recent years, with Tank district among the areas frequently affected by security incidents.
