US, Iran pause attacks after weeks of conflict — Pajhwok

KABUL (Pajhwok): The United States and Iran have paused attacks against each other, with Washington saying President Donald Trump has halted strikes on Iran to allow more time for diplomatic efforts. US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz told Fox News on Sunday that Trump had paused strikes on Iran for a second consecutive night to provide additional space for negotiations. “What the president is doing right now, as we’ve seen all along, is giving talks some space. Talks are ongoing,” Waltz said. Asked whether Trump was seeking to prevent further escalation of the conflict, Waltz said: “I don’t see it that way. The president has kept all options on the table.” Meanwhile, Iranian military spokesman Mohammad Akraminia said in a televised interview that Tehran had also suspended its “retaliatory attacks” against US bases in the region following Washington’s decision. Akraminia said Iran’s military actions over the past 15 days had been “retaliatory” in response to what he described as continued US violations of its commitments. He added that Iran’s military had sought to pressure Washington into accepting the terms of a memorandum of understanding. The pause follows nearly two weeks of US strikes on Iran and Iranian retaliatory attacks on US military bases in the region.
