KABUL (Pajhwok): Iran has warned that any country receiving funds from Iranian assets frozen abroad under a proposal by US President Donald Trump would be barred from passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s IRNA news agency reported that Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that Washington would not use US government funds to compensate shipping companies for alleged losses suffered by commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. He said the compensation would instead be paid from Iranian assets frozen in the United States. Reacting to the remarks, IRNA quoted Ebrahim Zolfaqari, spokesman for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, as saying that any company or country receiving money from Iran’s frozen assets would not be allowed to transit through the Strait of Hormuz. “While warning the criminal US president about the consequences of this illegal action, we announce to all companies and countries that accept Trump’s proposal and use Iran’s blocked assets under this pretext that, from now on, the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will not allow any of their vessels to pass through the Strait of Hormuz,” he said.
