KABUL (Pajhwok): At least nine policemen have been killed and 28 others injured when armed men attacked a police checkpost in Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a media report said on Thursday. Quoting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed, Dawn reported the attack occurred on Wednesday evening at the Khazina Banda police checkpost. Hameed said the attackers initially stormed the checkpost before ambushing police reinforcements, damaging an armoured police vehicle. He said police personnel repelled the assault despite its intensity, killing 15 attackers and injuring several others during the ensuing gun battle. According to the report, those killed included Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Diyar Khan, while 28 policemen were wounded. Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack, expressed condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
