KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghan and Russian officials have discussed expanding cooperation in the railway sector. In a post on X, the Afghan Embassy in Ashgabat said the chargé d’affaires of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) in Turkmenistan Haji Fazal Mohammad Sabir met Ivan Tonkikh, a representative of Russian Railways. The embassy said both sides emphasised expanding bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening and continuing cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Sabir shared information about investment opportunities in Afghanistan, particularly in the industry, agriculture, trade and other sectors. For his part, Tonkikh welcomed efforts to expand the North-South Corridor and expressed satisfaction with reduced customs tariffs and improved trade facilitation at the Aqina and Torghundi border ports. He also pledged cooperation in the relevant areas. He said he would visit Afghanistan in the near future and hold talks with the relevant authorities on expanding the country’s railway network.
