Turkey plans international conference on Husayn Bayqara — Pajhwok
HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Turkey’s Consul General in western Herat province, Tezcan Kadıoğlu, has announced plans to hold an international conference on Sultan Husayn Bayqara and pledged continued Turkish cooperation in Afghanistan’s cultural, educational and reconstruction sectors. He made the remarks during a meeting with Herat Information and Culture Director Mawlawi Atiqullah Azizi, the Ministry of Information and Culture (MoIC) said in a statement. The two sides discussed expanding cultural cooperation and promoting Herat’s historical and cultural heritage, according to the statement. Azizi welcomed Turkey’s interest and cooperation in the cultural sector, saying Herat’s people had a strong interest in culture, writing and literature. “Herat has long been a city of poets, writers and prominent cultural figures. Introducing the city’s cultural and historical heritage to future generations is an important responsibility of cultural institutions,” he said. Azizi also referred to major reconstruction and development projects in Afghanistan and called for continued support from “friendly countries, particularly Turkey” in the cultural and development sectors. Kadıoğlu highlighted Herat’s historical and cultural significance, saying the province had always held special importance. He said Turkey was active in Afghanistan’s education and cultural sectors through its consulate, Afghan-Turk schools and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), adding that such cooperation would continue.
