KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 23 people have been killed and five others injured after a passenger bus collided with a truck in southern Brazil, a media report said on Thursday. The crash occurred in the early hours of Wednesday on the BR-373 highway in Paraná state, near the city of Ipiranga, Reuters reported, citing the Federal Highway Police. It said most of those killed were travelling on the bus, which belonged to the municipal health department of Imbituva. The truck driver was also killed. Preliminary evidence suggested that the truck crossed into the opposite lane before colliding with the bus, according to authorities. Investigators were working to determine what caused the truck to veer across the highway. The bus was travelling towards hospitals in Curitiba, the capital of Paraná state, when the accident occurred. Authorities in Imbituva, a city with a population of around 30,000, declared two days of official mourning following the deadly crash. The company responsible for the highway said the road had been closed following the accident and that no reopening time had yet been announced. kk
