PARAKH (Pajhwok): Nearly 4,000 carats of emeralds from central Panjshir province have been sold for around 33 million afghanis at an auction held on Tuesday, officials said. Panjshir Governor’s spokesman Saifuddin Laton said 3,842 carats of emeralds in 22 samples were sold to Afghan traders for nearly 33 million afghanis at the auction held on Tuesday. He said more than 100 young people from Panjshir participated in the auction, including some who had recently entered the emerald trading business. Laton added that holding emerald auctions not only generates revenue but also provides traders with an opportunity to learn about Panjshir’s natural resources and helps expand commercial activities in the province. He said Governor Hafiz Mohammad Agha Hakim had continued efforts to develop tourism and expand mining activities in the province in a legal and transparent manner.
