37 killed, hundreds evacuated in Russian strike on Kyiv depot — Pajhwok

KABUL (Pajhwok): Thirty-seven people have been killed and nearly 400 evacuated after a Russian drone strike triggered explosions at a Ukrainian ammunition depot near residential areas outside Kyiv, Ukrainian officials said. The strike late Friday hit a weapons storage site in Myla village, Bucha district, causing shells, mines and drones to detonate. The blast damaged around 130 homes and a care facility for elderly and disabled people, the BBC reported. Regional governor Tymur Tkachenko said 42 people, including four children, were injured. Rescue operations continued at the site on Saturday. Russian officials said the strike targeted an ammunition depot storing components and launch boosters for FP-1 and FP-2 long-range drones. President Volodymyr Zelensky called the storage of explosives near homes “absolutely unacceptable” and said criminal proceedings had been launched over alleged official negligence. Ukraine’s prosecutor general said it was investigating the legality of storing explosives near residential buildings and the decisions made by officials responsible. The incident has renewed concerns over the storage of munitions near populated areas, particularly after a similar explosion at a warehouse in Vyshneve in July killed nine people, injured dozens and damaged more than 280 homes.
