KABUL (Pajhwok): A resident of Sabari district in southeastern Khost province has been arrested for firing a machine gun during a recreational trip in a mountainous area, an official said on Tuesday. Saif-ul-Islam Khyber, spokesman for the Ministry of Vice, Virtue and Complaints (MoVVC), said in a post on X that the man had been arrested by the ministry’s provincial department in Khost. He said the man had fired a machine gun while visiting a mountainous area for recreation and had shared a video of the incident. He added that the necessary investigation would be conducted following the man’s arrest and that, after the investigation was completed, he would be handed over to the relevant judicial authority for legal action. He stressed that the misuse of weapons or their use without observing legal requirements and established standards could have serious security and legal consequences. “No one has the right to use weapons for recreation, display or other inappropriate purposes,” he said, adding that privately owned weapons and weapons belonging to the public treasury must be used in accordance with applicable laws and professional standards. The ministry spokesman said the law would be applied equally to everyone regardless of their name, position, connections or social influence, and that irresponsible and illegal actions would be dealt with within the legal framework.
