10 crew members missing after cargo ship sinks near Istanbul — Pajhwok

KABUL (Pajhwok): A Turkish cargo ship sank after colliding with another vessel near Istanbul, leaving 10 crew members missing. The Associated Press reported today, citing Turkish officials, that the cargo ship Tugberk Imamoglu sank after colliding with the Alsu in the Sea of Marmara on Wednesday morning. The Turkish Directorate General of Maritime Affairs said the ship’s lifeboat and some debris had been found, but there had been no sign of any crew members so far. Turkish Transport Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu said 10 crew members, including the ship’s captain, were on board and all were Turkish nationals. He said the vessel sank in about 11 minutes and none of the missing crew members had been found alive so far. According to the report, two helicopters and 12 search and rescue vessels are taking part in efforts to locate the missing crew members. Turkish officials said the incident occurred at around 3am, about 32 kilometres south of the Silivri district on the western outskirts of Istanbul.
