10 police officers, 17 armed men killed in Nigeria clashes — Pajhwok

KABUL (Pajhwok): Ten police officers and 17 armed men have been killed and two other officers injured in clashes between Nigerian security forces and an armed group in Kebbi State, northwestern Nigeria, police said. Reuters reported that the clashes took place on Monday, with police providing details of the incident on Tuesday. Police spokesperson Annie Enido said security forces identified and intercepted a heavily armed group travelling between Zamfara and Kebbi states, triggering a gunbattle. She said 17 armed men were killed in the clashes, while two police officers were injured. Police said reinforcements had been deployed to the area and that security forces had regained control of the situation. Security forces were continuing operations to locate and arrest armed men who fled the scene, according to the report.
