1,000-bed drug rehabilitation centre inaugurated in Nangarhar — Pajhwok

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Interior Affairs says a 1,000-bed treatment and support centre for drug addicts has been inaugurated in eastern Nangarhar province. The ministry said in a post on X on Monday that the centre was established to treat and support people struggling with drug addiction and help them return to a healthy life. Mawlavi Abdul Rahman Qasimi, deputy for civilian affairs at the ministry’s Counter-Narcotics Deputy Ministry, said at the inauguration ceremony that the ministry’s leadership was working to strengthen drug treatment centres and support people affected by addiction. He said efforts were also underway to help addicts overcome drug dependence and reintegrate into a healthy lifestyle. Meanwhile, Nangarhar police chief Mawlavi Mohibullah Hamas said the centre had been built according to modern standards and comprised 50 large rooms. He said the centre had also been equipped with the necessary medicines, medical equipment and other facilities required for the treatment of drug addicts. According to the source, the inauguration ceremony was attended by the deputy for civilian affairs of the Counter-Narcotics Deputy Ministry, the head of the Drug Demand Reduction Department, Nangarhar’s deputy governor, police chief, religious scholars, tribal elders and a number of other officials and personnel.
