FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Construction of the first phase of a standard passenger and freight terminal has begun in western Farah province at a cost of 127 million afghanis, officials said on Tuesday. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Governor Mullah Mohammad Hafiz Mujahid underscored the importance of development projects in the province and urged residents, investors and national traders to cooperate with local authorities in supporting such initiatives. He also called on the contractor to ensure the project is implemented in line with approved quality, quantity and technical standards. Deputy Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Engineer Hafiz Sediqullah Abid described the terminal as an important step toward developing the transport sector, improving public services and strengthening the national economy. He said the ministry remained committed to expanding land transport infrastructure, establishing modern standard facilities and improving transport services across the country. Abid noted that Farah’s strategic location made it one of Afghanistan’s key regional transit routes. He said the new terminal would help ease existing problems for passengers and provide better facilities for freight transport. According to him, the terminal will be built in three phases on 1,000 jeribs of land, with construction of the first phase costing 127 million afghanis.
