KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says Afghanistan’s child malnutrition crisis is worsening, with 3.7 million children suffering from wasting, including one million experiencing severe acute malnutrition. In a statement, UNICEF said millions of children across Afghanistan are in need of essential nutrition and medical services as the country faces a growing malnutrition crisis. According to UNICEF, 3.7 million children are currently affected by wasting, while approximately one million are suffering from severe acute malnutrition. The organisation said funding cuts had resulted in the closure of some nutrition services, making it increasingly difficult for vulnerable children to access essential treatment and support. UNICEF called for increased financial assistance to sustain nutrition services in Afghanistan, stressing that continued support is critical to protecting vulnerable children and saving lives. The Afghan Ministry of Public Health has not yet commented on the issue.
