5 killed, 41 missing after ferry fire in Indonesia — Pajhwok

KABUL (Pajhwok): At least five people have been killed and 41 others remain missing after a passenger ferry caught fire off Indonesia’s Madura Island, authorities said. Al Jazeera reported that the Mutiara Sentosa II caught fire on Sunday morning while sailing from Surabaya to Makassar. A total of 271 people were on board, including 232 passengers and 39 crew members. Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) said 225 people had been rescued by Sunday afternoon, while the bodies of five victims had been recovered. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and an investigation is underway, authorities said.
