KABUL (Pajhwok): The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs says a five-year electricity development plan, approved by the Economic Commission, has been endorsed by the leadership of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA). According to the office, the plan includes 25 electricity generation projects based on domestic resources, including hydropower, solar energy, wind and coal. It also covers 13 ongoing and 23 planned electricity transmission projects, 21 incomplete and 21 planned substation projects, as well as 34 planned electricity distribution projects. The office said completion of these projects would significantly expand the country’s energy sector and reduce dependence on imported electricity. It added that implementing the plan would enhance the role of the energy sector in Afghanistan’s economic development and strengthen financial independence, while supporting efforts towards self-sufficiency and energy security.
