940 intercepted in illegal migration attempt, 13 arrested in Nimroz — Pajhwok

ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Security forces prevented 940 people from being illegally transported to neighbouring countries during the past month, while 13 others were arrested on charges of carrying out illegal excavations at historical sites in western Nimroz province, police said on Thursday. Police spokesman Mawlawi Gul Mohammad Qudrat told Pajhwok Afghan News the 940 individuals were intercepted during security patrols. He said 34 vehicles allegedly used in the attempted illegal transportation were also impounded. Qudrat did not specify the intended destination of those intercepted. Nimroz borders Iran to the west and Pakistan to the south along the Durand Line. He said the Nimroz Police was enforcing a decree issued by the leader of the Islamic Emirate to combat human trafficking and would not allow traffickers to transport people illegally. According to the decree, those convicted of human trafficking face prison sentences ranging from one to three years, depending on the nature of the offence. 13 arrested over illegal excavation In a separate incident, Qudrat said 13 people had been arrested on charges of carrying out illegal excavations at historical sites in the province.
