KABUL (Pajhwok): Iran says it has launched retaliatory attacks against US military bases in Bahrain and Kuwait after the United States carried out a second consecutive night of airstrikes on Iranian cities, according to media reports on Thursday. Explosions were reported across several Iranian cities along the Strait of Hormuz, including Bushehr, Chabahar, Bandar Abbas, Sirik, Jask and Abu Musa Island. Additional blasts were also reported in Konarak, Qeshm Island, Aqqala and Iranshahr, where at least one person was reportedly killed, according to Al Jazeera. US President Donald Trump said the strikes were carried out in “retribution” for alleged Iranian attacks on ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) said the attacks were ordered by President Trump to “further degrade Tehran’s ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.” In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it targeted US military facilities at Camp Arifjan and Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, as well as the Juffair and Sheikh Isa bases in Bahrain. State media in both Bahrain and Kuwait reported that air raid sirens were activated following the attacks.
