KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Defense says its forces have seized 119 weapons, ammunition, vehicles, medicines and other smuggled goods during operations near the Durand Line over the past three months. In a statement, the ministry said the items were seized during intelligence, reconnaissance and operations conducted in various parts of the country. According to the ministry, the seized items included 66 Kalashnikovs, 20 M16 rifles, 17 M4 rifles, 33 handguns, 8,000 rounds of light and heavy ammunition, 45 vehicles, 2,600 kilograms of narcotics, 486 cartons of medicines, 2,373 sheep and 34 bundles of “second-hand” goods. The ministry said 39 people were also arrested in connection with the seizures. It added that operations against smuggling would be further strengthened and continued. sa
