KABUL (Pajhwok): A total of 828,968 metric tonnes of goods were transported through Afghanistan’s railway network during Mizan (23 September–22 October), the Ministry of Public Works said on Wednesday. In a statement, ministry spokesman Mohammad Ashraf Haqshinas said 536,430 tonnes were transported through Hairatan port, 61,951 tonnes through Aqina port, 93,246 tonnes through Torghundi port and 137,341 tonnes along the Khaf-Herat railway line. The shipments included petroleum products, non-petroleum products and other goods. During the same period, 1,853 tonnes of carbonated beverages, mineral stones and dried fruit were also exported, the statement said. Haqshinas said increased freight transport and exports through the railway network could create jobs, boost national revenue and strengthen the economy. He added that the Islamic Emirate was working to improve transport conditions and provide better facilities for traders.
