KABUL (Pajhwok): China has opposed unilateral sanctions on Iran, saying sanctions and pressure are not the solution and that disputes should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian made the remarks in response to a US request for Beijing to join economic pressure on Iran, Reuters reported. At a Foreign Ministry press briefing on August 21, Lin said China opposes “illegal unilateral sanctions” that lack a basis in international law or authorization from the UN Security Council. He urged all parties to act responsibly and remain committed to political and diplomatic efforts. “Sanctions and pressure will not help resolve the issue,” Lin said, warning that military action, sanctions and pressure could instead escalate tensions and benefit no one. He reiterated that differences should be resolved through dialogue and negotiations.
