KABUL (Pajhwok): The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) says a list of weapons and equipment needed to strengthen the Tajik-Afghan border has been finalized, with the first shipments expected to be delivered to Tajikistan this autumn. Tajik media outlet KÖZ News reported that CSTO Secretary-General Talgat Nasasikov made the remarks in an interview with Russia’s TASS news agency. Nasasikov said the first consignments of weapons and equipment for strengthening the Tajik-Afghan border would be delivered this autumn, adding that the list of required equipment had already been agreed upon. He said securing the Tajik-Afghan border was important not only for Tajikistan but for all CSTO member states. “If, God forbid, something happens there, it will not be a problem for Tajikistan alone, but for all CSTO member states and other countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States,” he said. The CSTO secretary-general said Russia would play a key role in supplying weapons and equipment to Tajikistan. Afghanistan and Tajikistan share more than 1,300 kilometres of border, most of which runs along the Panj River. Tajikistan shares a border with four northeastern Afghan provinces. In 2024, the CSTO approved a five-year programme to strengthen the Tajik-Afghan border.
