Former Afghan special forces member killed after return from US — Pajhwok

KABUL (Pajhwok): A former member of the previous government’s special forces, who recently returned from the United States, was shot dead in southeastern Khost province over a personal feud, police said on Monday, rejecting social media claims that the killing was politically motivated. In a statement, the Khost police headquarters said the victim, identified as Nangyali, was shot dead on Sunday in front of Abdali Hospital in the 1,200-Families area of Khost city. The statement said Nangyali, a resident of Khabshkhel village in Matun district, had gone to the hospital to visit a patient when he was attacked with a pistol due to a personal dispute. It added that Nangyali had travelled to the United States after the fall of the previous government and returned to Afghanistan about 10 days ago. The statement also noted that one of his brothers had been killed during the previous government in another incident linked to a personal feud. Khost police rejected allegations circulating on social media that the killing had political motives, calling them false and baseless. Authorities are continuing investigations to identify and arrest those responsible, the statement said.
