Gas transfer to Afghanistan via TAPI to begin in 2027: Turkmen envoy — Pajhwok

KABUL (Pajhwok): Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Atajan Movlamov says construction of the strategically important Serhetabat-Herat section of the TAPI pipeline project is expected to be completed by the end of this year, paving the way for the transfer of natural gas to Afghanistan and then Pakistan in 2027. He made the remarks at the Ambassadors’ Dinner 2026, hosted by the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Islamabad, according to the Turkmen Embassy in Pakistan, Caspian Post reported. He said construction of the strategically important Serhetabat-Herat section of the pipeline was expected to be completed this year. The ambassador said completing the section would create the necessary conditions for natural gas supplies to Afghanistan in 2027. He said TAPI and other regional energy projects could help provide more reliable energy supplies and support Pakistan’s industrial development and economic growth. The TAPI project is one of the largest gas transmission projects in the region. It is designed to transport Turkmenistan’s gas through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India. The pipeline is around 1,800 kilometres long and will have the capacity to transport 33 billion cubic metres of natural gas annually.
