KABUL (Pajhwok): A 45-year-old man shot dead eight people, including a pregnant woman and two children, in Erie, Pennsylvania, before apparently killing himself, authorities said on Saturday. The suspect, whose identity has not been released, died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound before police arrived at the scene on Friday evening, Reuters reported, citing Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah. “Some scenes stay with you long after you leave them. This is one of those tragic scenes,” Lorah said. Eight of the victims were members of the same family, while the ninth was a family friend. Police have yet to establish a motive. Lorah said the gunman shot two distressed women who were seeking help from neighbours after coming out of the house. Police later found him on the second floor of the house on Perry Street. Erie Mayor Daria Devlin praised police for their professional response, saying officers would also carry the emotional burden of the tragedy. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro said he had spoken with the mayor and offered support. He has advocated stricter gun-safety laws, including universal background checks and restrictions on homemade firearms known as ghost guns.
