Eastern China shuts schools, tourist sites as Typhoon Dolphin approaches — Pajhwok

KABUL (Pajhwok): Authorities in eastern China have closed schools, educational facilities and tourist destinations as Typhoon Dolphin moves towards the country’s coast. The Associated Press reported that the storm’s maximum sustained winds were estimated at around 162 kilometres (101 miles) per hour on Saturday. The typhoon is expected to bring heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of severe flooding and landslides. According to the report, Dolphin is expected to hit Zhejiang province and northern parts of neighbouring Fujian province late Sunday. Shanghai is also in the storm’s path. National authorities have declared a Level III emergency response, the second-lowest level in the country’s emergency response system. Many tourist destinations in Zhejiang have been closed for Saturday and Sunday. All water-based activities, including ferry services and cruises, have also been suspended. Authorities in Ningbo, one of the largest cities in Zhejiang province, have ordered schools and other educational facilities to remain closed over the weekend. Authorities have urged residents in areas likely to be affected by the storm to take precautionary measures and avoid unnecessary travel.
