HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Governor of western Herat province Sheikh Mawlana Islam Jar has stressed ensuring border security, speeding up trade procedures and preventing delays in providing services to traders and visitors through Torghundi port. Jar visited Rabat Sangi district and the Torghundi area and met officials from customs, the commissariat, petroleum products, quality control, border affairs and other relevant departments, the governor’s office said in a statement. He said: “Protecting borders holds a special place in an Islamic system, and officials should carry out their duties with greater care, seriousness and responsibility.” He described the Torghundi border as one of the country’s important trade gateways and stressed that there should be no delays in trade activities or the provision of services to traders and visitors, as prolonged procedures could lead to higher prices of goods and increase economic pressure on people. He asked officials of the relevant departments to coordinate more closely, identify existing problems in the trade process and take steps to resolve them so that trade activities at the crossing could be conducted in an orderly and timely manner.
