KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) Chief Sayed Karim Hashimi and Russian Ambassador to Afghanistan Dmitry Zhirnov have discussed increasing bilateral trade, expanding economic cooperation and encouraging joint investment between the two countries. Hashimi met Zhirnov on the sidelines of a ceremony marking the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence, the ACCI said in a statement. Hashimi thanked the Russian embassy for its cooperation in strengthening economic and trade relations between the two countries and stressed the need for greater investment by Russian businessmen in Afghanistan. He called on the ambassador to encourage Russian businessmen and investors to explore investment opportunities in economically promising sectors in Afghanistan. Hashimi also asked the Russian embassy to help facilitate the participation of Russian businessmen and companies in the fifth Imam Abu Hanifa (RA) National and International Exhibition, scheduled to be held in Kabul on October 7. He stressed the importance of organising a visit by an Afghan business delegation to Moscow and called for the embassy’s cooperation in arranging meetings between the delegation and representatives of Russia’s private sector, particularly the country’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
