KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Standard and Quality Authority (ASQA) and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) have stressed the exchange of expertise and strengthening technical cooperation on International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards. In a statement, ASQA said the meeting focused on the development, adoption, use and management of international electrotechnical standards. It said Mawlawi Mohammad Hanif, head of Standards and Building Codes Development and Promotion at ASQA, an electrotechnical standards development specialist from the authority, and several officials and experts from BIS attended the meeting. The meeting discussed technical issues related to the adoption and use of IEC standards, management of and access to standards documents, and methods for distributing standards. The two sides shared their professional experiences and views on the subject, while BIS experts also provided information on methods for managing and using international standards, the statement said. It added that BIS representatives agreed to share regulations, procedures and other documents related to the management and use of standards with ASQA by email. The documents will be reviewed and assessed by ASQA’s technical departments after they are received. Officials said the meeting could help facilitate the exchange of technical knowledge and experience and strengthen professional capacities in the development and adoption of international standards.
