Kenya bus-truck collision kills 24, injures 24 others — Pajhwok

KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 24 people have been killed and another 24 injured after a bus carrying mourners collided with a truck on a major highway in southeastern Kenya, police and hospital officials said. The crash occurred at about 7:45am on Sunday, October 25, in the Kanga area near Mtito Andei, on the highway linking the capital, Nairobi, with the coastal city of Mombasa, Al Jazeera reported. The bus belonged to Power of the Word Church International in Mombasa and was carrying mourners home from their pastor’s funeral in western Kenya. The other vehicle was a truck transporting cement. A survivor said the passengers had stopped for breakfast shortly before the collision. Violet Mwandonyi, who survived the crash, told the Associated Press that she remembered passengers crying out to passing motorists for help. She said she did not know what had happened to her two children, who were also travelling on the bus. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The incident occurred just over three weeks after another crash on the same highway killed 17 people, prompting renewed government pledges to improve road safety.
