Kuwait Fund announces $5m humanitarian aid for Afghanistan, Syria — Pajhwok

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) have signed two grant agreements worth a total of $5 million for humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan and Syria. Under the agreements, $2.5 million will be allocated to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund and another $2.5 million to the Syria Humanitarian Fund, both managed by OCHA. OCHA announced the assistance on its X account on Friday, saying the agreements were signed by Rashid Ali Al-Badr, acting director-general of the Kuwait Fund, and Mohammed Khater Zaid, OCHA representative in Saudi Arabia. OCHA described the contribution as a “timely action to strengthen humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan and Syria.” The UN agency said the funding would help deliver critical assistance to people most in need and support humanitarian programmes and projects aimed at addressing the immediate needs of affected people. The assistance will also help provide lifesaving services to the most vulnerable individuals and communities, OCHA said.
