KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has held a coordination meeting with representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Aga Khan Foundation to address a recent outbreak of diarrhea diseases in Kabul’s Dasht-i-Barchi area. The ministry said in a statement that the meeting was chaired by Dr. Mohammad Hassan Ghiasi, deputy minister for health policy and development, and attended by officials from the departments of curative medicine, preventive medicine and disease surveillance. The participants discussed response measures, efforts to prevent further spread of the disease and ways to provide medical services to residents of Dasht-i-Barchi. The ministry said additional medicines and medical equipment would be supplied to the Dasht-i-Barchi health centre, emergency medical teams would be deployed to the area, and public awareness programmes would be launched. Ghiasi thanked WHO and the Aga Khan Foundation for their cooperation in addressing the situation and stressed the need for continued coordination. Representatives of WHO and the Aga Khan Foundation also assured that they would provide the necessary support to help manage the outbreak and strengthen healthcare services in Dasht-i-Barchi.
