KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) has included 70 maintenance projects worth 1.419 billion afghanis in its annual work plan to maintain transport infrastructure across 34 provinces, an official said on Monday. Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesman for MoPW, wrote on his X account that some of the projects were already underway, while others were at the technical and procurement stages at the ministry’s central office and provincial departments. He said the projects included repairing damaged sections of highways and roads, patching roads, repairing and maintaining bridges and culverts, rebuilding retaining walls and carrying out other related works. He added that the projects were aimed at maintaining transport infrastructure, preventing road damage and erosion, and ensuring the continued maintenance of highways, bridges, culverts and retaining walls. The implementation of the projects would ensure continued monitoring, maintenance and upkeep of the country’s transport infrastructure, the spokesman concluded.
