KABUL (Pajhwok): Iranian President MasoudPezeshkian says reports about his country in Western media often do not reflect reality, stressing that Iran seeks peace but will not yield to coercion. According to a statement from the Iranian Presidency, Pezeshkian made the remarks while receiving the credentials of Portugal’s newly appointed ambassador to Tehran, Valtier Matias. “We will not bow to force and will defend our rights within the framework of international laws and regulations. No country can impose its demands on the Iranian people outside this framework,” he said. The statement quoted Pezeshkian as saying that much of what was published about Iran and its people in Western media did not reflect reality. “The Iranian people are peace-loving and have stood firm against the violent and criminal actions of certain powers that commit crimes under the pretext of defending human rights,” he added. Pezeshkian expressed hope that cooperation and engagement among nations and governments would help create a world of peace and stability, where countries would work together and support one another rather than violate each other’s rights. His remarks come amid continued tensions between Iran, the United States and Israel following recent military confrontations. Diplomatic efforts to resolve the disputes have yet to produce a final outcome, while concerns are growing over a possible renewed escalation.
