Uruzgan tribes end 16-year feud — Pajhwok

KABUL (Pajhwok): A 16-year feud between two tribes, in which 16 people were killed, has been resolved through mediation by government officials, religious scholars and tribal elders in central Uruzgan province. In a statement, the Ministry of Borders and Tribal Affairs (MoBTA) said the feud between the two tribes began 16 years ago over land ownership in the Baghchar area of Khas Uruzgan district. It said relations between the two sides remained tense for years following the dispute, with the possibility of renewed clashes occasionally arising. “According to claims by both sides, around 16 people were killed and two others injured during the feud,” the statement explained. The statement added that officials of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) had met several times with elders of the families involved in an effort to resolve the dispute and urged them to make peace and reconcile. The ministry said that as a result of these efforts and following the issuance of a religious ruling, the dispute between the two sides was resolved and the rights of each party were handed over to those entitled to them.
